Week of October 28, 2013

 

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had fun at Trunk or Treat. The children all expressed their delight at what they saw and heard on that special evening. They love seeing their classmates in costume.

CONFERENCES: Please sign up for your parent teacher conference at the tables located in the main school hall. Thank you to those parents who have already  signed up. I am looking forward to talking to all of you. Be sure to write down any questions or concerns you may have about our curriculum or your child’s progress.

SSJ PARTNERS- IN -PROGRESS: Please read Mrs. Smith’s letter posted on the SSJ website for details on this special program. We appreciate the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, who will be sponsoring the visit from the “Traveling Scientist”. She will be visiting our classroom in March and bringing several LIVE mammals for the children to see and touch. We would appreciate any donations towards the purchase of a “Smart Board” for our TYKE classroom.

OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS: We visit the library on Friday afternoons for story time and to check out books. We are fortunate to have this privilege. PLEASE RETURN THE BOOKS BY THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY SO THEY MAY CHECK OUT A NEW BOOK. It is your child’s responsibility to give us the book when they are ready to return it.  We do not go through their backpacks every day.

CANDY: Please do NOT send candy to school for your child’s snack or lunch. They may enjoy this special treat at home.

Here is an overview of this week:

Religion: We will be talking about how we can take care of God’s creations, and “The Good Samaritan” Bible story.

SRA READING: We will be reviewing our High Frequency Words,___the, and ____a. We will also begin reviewing the letters of the alphabet. This week we will learn about Aa and Bb. Please make flashcards for your child showing only the capital letter on one side and the lowercase letter on the other so the children can memorize and identify each letter separately.
