Week of October 21, 2013
Dear Parents,
WISH LIST: Some of you may have noticed
my “Wish List “poster on the classroom door. Every year the SSJ teachers post a
“Wish List “of items they would like to purchase for their classrooms which are
not covered by our budget. The money you donate towards these items can be
counted towards your service hours. The TYKE class is the only classroom that
does not have a Smart Board (interactive white board). Last Friday, our class was invited into Mrs.
Tucker’s room where we watched a Math game which matched numbers 1-30. The
children enjoyed going up to the board and touching the fish with the right
number and watching it “swim” to the fisherman.
Our reading series also has an online component and interactive games
that go with our units . The Smart Board is a major item, and we would
appreciate any donations, large or small, towards the purchase of one, and the
needed projector.
Another item on our “Wish List” is the “Traveling
Scientist,” which is part of the Orange County Department of Education’s
science program. She comes with 6 small animals and reinforces our study of
animals by pointing out the common characteristics of all mammals. This program
costs @ $7,50 per student.

program at SSJ. We would appreciate ANY donation you can make towards the
purchase of these special items.
Here is an overview of this week:
Religion: We will listen to Bible stories
and continue to talk about the mysteries of the Rosary.
Animal of the Week: Deer and Eagle.
SRA READING: We will be introducing the
High Frequency Word_____the.
For some reason, this word seems to be
very hard for the children to memorize. Please make a flashcard with the word
on it, and have your child read it every day. Writing it may help, as well as “writing”
it in sand.
We will also be talking about the meaning
of the term “character” in stories.
