Week of October 8, 2012

Dear Parents,

I hope all of you enjoyed the festival. It is a great family event!

SCARECROWS: We will be making our scarecrows this Friday. Please send in all the supplies on Thursday. See the enclosed list of scarecrow supplies. Please send in extra newspaper if you have it. We always seem to run short.

Here is an overview of this week:

Religion: Our topic will be “God Wants Us To Celebrate His Love.”
Math: We will be talking about the meaning of above, below, & beside.
Animal of the Week: Deer

SRA: We will be introducing another High Frequency Word___the. Please make flashcards with ___a and ___the on them and have your child read them every day. We will also be talking about first, middle and last and learning the meaning of “characters” in books.

SCHOOL TARDIES

“We have a growing number of students who are being marked “tardy” on a regular basis. Tardiness is defined as any student arriving to school after 7:50 A.M.  The administration has stressed many times the importance of regular and prompt attendance so that your children can receive the maximum benefits from daily sequential instruction. Our teachers are most anxious to have all of the students present and ready to learn at the beginning of each day. It is difficult to conduct a lesson when students consistently arrive late. This is not only a disruption of the lesson; it is also a disservice to the other students who arrive at school on time. If there are extenuating circumstances of which the school is not aware, please feel free to inform your child’s teacher. Continued failure to adequately address the problem of tardiness at this point could lead to a meeting with the administration, the parents and the respective teachers to discuss possible solutions for the situation. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.”

SCHOLASTIC book orders are due by this Friday, October 12th.  Choosing the perfect book for themselves is a treat, and research shows that children who choose their own books read more.  When you place your order online, you’ll help earn Free Books for our class and get a $5 Free Book Pick for your next Scholastic Book Clubs online order!
Thank you for helping your child’s love of reading grow!

Have a great week!
