Week of September 22, 2012
Dear Parents,
FAMILY PHOTO: Thank you to all the families that have sent in a photo
for our “Family“ bulletin board. If you have not done so already, please send
in one as we are starting our new unit on Families this week.
PREDECODABLE: Your child is bringing home
their first predecodable in their folders today. All predecodables should have a special place
at home and I suggest that you have your child decorate a shoebox to store them
in. They will eventually have 20 booklets with their High Frequency Words in
them. If they bring in a decorated shoebox
or some other container to show the class, I will reward them with a
sticker!
Here is an overview of this week’s
lessons:
Religion:
We will talk about God’s gift of land.
Animals
of the Week: Apes and Bears.
Math:
We will continue to review patterns and have
the children
match the correct number of
cubes to Numbers
1-10 .
SRA Reading: We will be introducing their
first High Frequency Word.----a. We will
learn the meaning of first and last, and begin a new BIG BOOK on alphabet
letters. You can make flash cards at home so your child can practice
recognizing the alphabet letters, both upper and lower case. We will be doing a
letter a day starting with Aa .We will also discuss the need for spaces between
words and understand that a sentence is made up of individual words.
We will continue to work on rhyming words as well. I am sending home a list of
words for you to give your child to check if they are understanding the concept
of rhyming, an important skill in reading readiness. Sometimes they are able to rhyme only 2 or 3
words and if you add any new words they
have difficulty.
CAFÉ SSJ: We would like 100%
participation for our Café SSJ, the school’s bake booth at our Parish Festival.
Please read the flyers for this event and the school communication which is
online.
FESTIVAL PARKING: The festival rides will
start appearing in our parking lot next Monday. Please allow extra time in the
morning to find a parking spot.
Have a great week!
