Week of January 20, 2014
Dear Parents,
OPEN HOUSE: Sts. Simon & Jude School
will be hosting their Open House this Sunday, January 26. We will begin the day
with Mass at 9:30 and our classrooms will be open after that, from 11:00 until
1:00. The children are looking forward to showing you their Farm Books, the
baby chicks, and their artwork in Colman Hall. I hope you are all able to
attend this special event.
SRA READING: We will be introducing the
beginning and ending sounds of Dd
and Pp this week. I strongly recommend that you review these sounds as well as
those of Ss and Mm at home by giving your child words and have them
discriminate the different sounds. Having them sort pictures according to the
beginning sound is also good practice. We are also
introducing the word family-----at, and having the children change the
beginning sound to make new words.(e.g. mat, bat, sat etc.) Our reading program
moves very fast this semester and it is vital that you reinforce these new
concepts at home. Reading their pre-decodables every day will also help them to become fluent readers. We
will be learning 20 sight words this year, and next year they will be learning
a total of 100 sight words.
FARM PICTURES: Thank you to the families
that have sent in pictures of their children at the farm for our Open House
bulletin board. If you have not sent your pictures in, please do so by Friday.
Have a great week!
